Marketing vs Designing

Professionals that work in marketing and sales have one thing in common with a graphic or web designer: They all want a nicely designed website, marketing campaign and logos., but working together to make it happen can sometime cause some grief on both ends.

Marketing majors tend to think more in a problem-solving mode, where a designer looks at everything from a creative stand point. Despite this, they do have a lot in common. All marketing professionals have to use some sort of a creative process to find a new idea. And any designer had to understand some marketing to know how to draw in their audience’s attention.

There are some more ways that designers and marketing professionals are alike. They both have a shared goal. They both want their client to be happy! This would include a nicely design marketing campaign or website. They also ask a client similar questions, and they both need to know what makes a audience like a certain brand, color, idea, etc. They both also start with the same goal and want the same outcome, which is success and a satisfied client.

There are a few differences. Designers are happy with a successful campaign or site design for the client even if the audience is smaller than the marketing professional’s wishes. The marketing professional wants to track the number of hits it receives, social media stats, etc and would want to see it go more viral.

In the end, marketing professionals and designers have to work together towards their common goal, and learn to work together to appreciate what each person has to offer to the project.
